Got a coat your kid outgrew? Langley schools are collecting them until Oct 30
Coats for Kids is collecting new and gently used winter coats for Langley students at every school and the School Board Office until Friday, October 30.

Every fall the hall closet does the same thing: a coat that fit perfectly in March now stops at the wrist. If it’s still warm and the zipper still works, there’s a Langley student who could use it this winter, and you’ve got one week to get it to them.

How to do it in five minutes
- Check the coat. Zipper or snaps working, no big rips, clean. Run it through the wash if it’s been sitting in a bin since spring. “Gently used” means a coat you’d be fine seeing on a kid at the bus stop.
- Think bigger sizes too. The drive is for students, and last year’s version asked for coats for children and youth from Kindergarten all the way to Grade 12. A teen-sized or small adult coat your high schooler has moved on from counts.
- Drop it at any school. It doesn’t have to be your own kid’s school, so the one on your way to work is fine. Hand it in at the office during the school day, or take it to the School Board Office on 222 Street in Murrayville.
- No coat? Send cash. The CanadaHelps page takes donations, which go toward buying new coats where the donated pile comes up short. CanadaHelps issues the receipt.
Why this one’s worth the trip
The Foundation already knows how many kids come to school without the basics. When it asked principals about breakfast, the answer was more than 3,000 students a day across the district arriving without breakfast or a packed lunch. That’s the reason it runs its Food for Thought program. A warm coat is the same kind of quiet, everyday gap, and it’s one you can fill from your own closet.
Heads-up on timing: last year’s drive ran into early November, but this year it wraps up on Friday, October 30. Don’t wait for the first frost.
Don’t mix it up with the other Coats for Kids
There are two coat drives with the same name in Langley. This one goes to Langley students through the schools. The Greater Vancouver Home Builders’ Association runs a separate Coats for Kids drive with drop-off bins at local businesses, usually later in the fall. We’ll add that one to the events calendar once its 2026 dates are announced.
