Grade 10 or 11? The school Foundation wants your opinions
The Langley School District Foundation is taking applications for its 2027 Youth Advisory Committee, open to Grade 10 and 11 students at Langley secondary schools.
Most of what the Langley School District Foundation does is aimed at students: breakfast clubs, weekend food backpacks, bursaries, counselling help. Once a year it asks a group of students to help steer that work. Applications for the 2027 group are open now.
What the committee is
The Foundation calls it the Youth Advisory Committee, and says 2027 will be its fourth year. The school district, passing the word along this week, described it as a youth advisory team. Same thing. It is a group of student leaders from across Langley who meet with the Foundation from time to time, share ideas, give feedback on projects and campaigns, and learn how the charity works.
The Foundation’s pitch to students is practical. Members get a say on issues that affect students in the district, a hand in shaping Foundation projects, connections with students from other schools, leadership experience, and volunteer hours. There is also a crash course in how a non-profit runs, which is not something most high-school courses cover.
Who can apply
Current Grade 10 and Grade 11 students at a Langley School District (SD35) secondary school. The Foundation says it is looking for a mix of interests, experiences and points of view. You do not need to have been on a council or run a club before. Past leadership experience is welcome, not required.
When
The new committee starts its term in January 2027. The Foundation’s post does not give a closing date for applications. It says they will be reviewed this fall, so sooner is safer than later. The post also does not say how often the group meets, only that it meets periodically. If the time commitment matters to your schedule, ask before you apply.
How to apply
There is an online application form, linked from the Foundation’s announcement. Questions go through the Foundation’s contact page.
Why it matters
The Foundation is a registered charity, separate from the school district, and it raises money for things public funding does not cover. More on what it does, and how it is set up, on our Foundation page. A student committee is a small part of that, but it is the part where the people the money is meant for get to say what they actually need.
