The clocks aren't going back on November 1: what BC's permanent time means in Langley

BC made its March 2026 clock change the last one. Here is what that means for Langley mornings and evenings this winter.

Date
Sunday, November 1, 2026: nothing changes
What stays
Your clocks, phones and the oven. Pacific time (UTC-7) all year
Last change
Sunday, March 8, 2026
Not covered
Some places in southeast BC will keep changing with Alberta; Langley is not one of them

If you have been waiting for the first Sunday in November to get your hour back, you can stop. The Province announced in March that the spring change on March 8 would be the last one. The usual fall-back on November 1 is cancelled, and BC now stays on what used to be daylight time all year, which it calls Pacific time.

What actually changes

Not much on the day. Your phone and computer should already be on the new setting, and the only clocks that might need a nudge are the ones that still follow an old fall-back rule, like a wall clock, car dashboard or oven. The Province said the point is to end the twice-a-year reset for families and businesses.

What it means for Langley mornings

The same sun, one hour later on the clock. Our rough numbers for Langley, using UTC-7 all winter:

  • Early November: sunrise around 8 am, sunset a little before 6 pm.
  • Mid-December, the shortest days: sunrise close to 9 am, sunset around 5:15 pm.
  • Mid-January: sunrise just before 9 am, sunset around 5:40 pm.

So the evenings stay brighter for longer than they would have, and winter mornings stay dark until well after most kids are out the door. If you walk a child to school, a bike light and something reflective are worth putting in the bag now.

Things worth doing this week

  • Check the clocks that do not update on their own and leave them alone after March 8, they are right as they are.
  • Check your smoke alarm batteries on a date you pick, since the clock change is no longer the reminder.
  • Tell the person who still thinks they are getting an extra hour on November 1.
