Otter Co-op's Fuel Good Day cheque takes its Canuck Place total past $100,000
A nickel a litre on September 15 added up to $13,585.58 for Canuck Place Children's Hospice, and pushed eight years of Otter Co-op Fuel Good Days past the $100,000 mark.

Every tank filled at an Otter Co-op gas bar on Tuesday, September 15 was worth five cents a litre to Canuck Place Children’s Hospice. On October 26 the co-op posted the result: a cheque for $13,585.58, handed over under the canopy of a Co-op gas bar.
That number matters more than it looks. Going into the day, the co-op told the Aldergrove Star it had given a little over $95,000 to Canuck Place across seven previous Fuel Good Days, and that the thing it most wanted from the eighth was to break $100,000. The cheque does it, with room to spare. (The oversized cheque in the photo reads $13,585.85; the co-op’s own post says $13,585.58. Either way, past the line.)
Fuel Good Day is a Western Canada-wide Co-op event, running since 2017, and the national tally stood at more than $5.6 million before this year’s edition. Each local co-op picks its own cause. Otter, the member-owned co-op based on 248 Street in Aldergrove, has stuck with the children’s hospice since 2019, and this year’s nickel came from fuel sold at its gas bars across B.C., from Whistler and Pemberton out to the Okanagan and Kamloops, including the one at home in Aldergrove.
Canuck Place is the only pediatric palliative care provider in B.C. and the Yukon. The nearest of its two hospices to Langley is Dave Lede House on Marshall Road in Abbotsford, with four patient beds and four family suites, and there is no charge to the families who use it: it runs on donations, the Province, Ottawa and the Canucks for Kids Fund.
If you filled up that Tuesday, that was you. More on the co-op, its membership and its 1922 beginnings on our Otter Co-op page.
