If you’re arranging a burial in Langley today, this is probably where you’ll end up, and it’s where the Township’s cemetery office is. Langley Lawn is wide and open, with flat markers set into the grass, and it doesn’t look much like the old village cemeteries. That’s on purpose.

About

The Langley Centennial Museum explains the style. After the First World War, attitudes toward death shifted, and cemeteries were designed to be calmer and easier to keep: big lawns, few paths, clipped shrubs and stones laid flat so mowers can pass. The museum names Langley Lawn as the local example of a lawn cemetery.

Interment.net, a genealogy site that posted Township burial records in 2020, gives 1966 as the year it was established. We haven’t found that date on a Township page yet.

Plots and room to grow

In its 2019 review, the Township called Langley Lawn its most-used cemetery, about half developed, and expected it to serve residents for 25 years or more. Plans in that report included phased expansion on the undeveloped western half, a green burial area, a relocated operations yard and a better customer building and entrance. We haven’t seen a later update on which of those are done, so ask the office.

The Township’s three cemeteries together offer casket and cremation plots, niche walls and scattering. The current fee schedule also lists a natural/hybrid lot ($5,179.65 for residents, before GST). The Cemetery Bylaw sets the rules for natural burial: no embalming, a simple biodegradable casket, urn or shroud, natural-material markers, and a space somewhere in the natural section rather than a chosen lot. Sample prices for regular plots are on our cemeteries page.

Finding someone

The Township’s Open Data burial table covers all three of its cemeteries; filter by last name and the cemetery column will show Langley Lawn. The dataset says it runs to about 2021, so for a recent burial, or to be shown to a plot, drop into the office on a weekday or call ahead.

Visiting

Gates are open every day from 8am to dusk. Cut flowers, wreaths and artificial flowers are welcome, but other items are cleared each spring (in 2026 the clean-up started April 20, and items were held for 60 days for families to pick up). Keep dogs leashed and drive slowly. For a sense of older Langley, Murrayville Cemetery is a short drive east on 44 Avenue, and Fort Langley Cemetery is the oldest of the three.
