Langley on screen: TV, movies and where they filmed

Storybrooke, Riverdale, Hope Valley, White Pine Bay and Green Hills were all Langley. Our guide to the shows, the movies, the spots you can visit and how filming works here.

If you’ve watched much North American TV in the last twenty years, you’ve almost certainly seen Langley and not known it. The white community hall on Glover Road has been the town hall in Storybrooke, Riverdale and Sonic’s Green Hills. A farm on 248 Street has a whole frontier main street behind the barns. And the row of white trucks you pass on a back road some Tuesday is usually a crew setting up for something you’ll stream next year.

The numbers back that up. The Township says film and TV bring in more than $40 million a year. Back in 2018 it told the Langley Advance Times it had logged more than 1,700 film days, 135 productions and 720 permits in a single year. It’s still going: an Amazon series was shooting in Fort Langley this fall.

We’ve split the subject into four guides so you can go straight to what you’re after.

The fictional towns that are really Langley

A quick cheat sheet, each linked to the full story:

  • Storybrooke, Maine (Once Upon a Time): Steveston played most of the town, but Fort Langley supplied the town hall and a second main street. More
  • Riverdale: the community hall as town hall, plus Glover Road and the old Fort Gallery storefront as the Riverdale Register. More
  • Hope Valley (When Calls the Heart): the Jamestown set on MacInnes Farms. More
  • White Pine Bay (Bates Motel): Fort Langley, with the motel itself on Township land near Aldergrove. More
  • Virgin River: Krause Berry Farms and farms toward Fort Langley. More
  • Green Hills, Montana (Sonic the Hedgehog 2): Glover Road and the community hall again. More
  • Air Bud’s hometown: Fort Langley, then and in the 2025 sequel. More

Jamestown, the set behind the barns

The single most-filmed place in Langley is one most of us have never set foot in. Jamestown is a western main street on a working family farm in North Langley, built from buildings left behind after a production wrapped. The farm’s own list of credits runs from When Calls the Heart and Once Upon a Time to Timeless and Legends of Tomorrow. You can see it at public events like Gone Country, and the farm brewery next door is open most days.

Before you go looking

Most filming spots are someone’s home, shop or farm. Look from the sidewalk, don’t knock, and if a crew is working, follow what the production assistants ask; they’re managing traffic for the permit, not trying to spoil your day. Our walk guide sticks to public streets and places that welcome visitors.
