Movies filmed in Langley

Feature films shot in Langley, place by place: Air Bud and Sonic in Fort Langley, a dozen titles in downtown Langley City, Scary Movie 4 on a North Langley farm, and the backlots and farms in between.

Ask a Langley kid what was filmed here and you’ll get Air Bud before you get anything else. Fair enough: the basketball-playing golden retriever was shot in Fort Langley in the 1990s, and the franchise came back to the village in 2025 for a new film. But the list goes a long way past one dog. A tank rolled down Glover Road for Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Steve Carell shopped for model soldiers in a Fort Langley antique store. A spoof horror movie left its buildings on a North Langley farm, and those buildings grew into a western town.

The TV page goes show by show. Movies are different: most only stay a few days, so it makes more sense to go place by place. Under each place we list what we could tie to it through the productions, the Langley Advance Times, Netflix’s own location site, or the long-running YVRShoots tracker at Hollywood North Buzz. When all we could find is “it filmed here,” that’s all we say.

Fort Langley village

The village is Langley’s busiest movie location by a long way. It has an old-fashioned main street, a classic town hall, a heritage railway station and a river, all within a few blocks, and it can pass for almost any small American town.

  • Air Bud (1997). The producers’ own 2025 announcement calls Fort Langley the franchise’s “original hometown,” and the reboot Air Bud Returns shot here in the fall of 2025. The full story.
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022). In April 2021 the crew built facades around Glover Road and Mary Avenue and turned the village into Green Hills, Montana. The Community Hall played the town hall. The full story.
  • Welcome to Marwen (2018). Robert Zemeckis shot this one around Vancouver from August to October 2017, under the working title The Women of Marwen. In mid-September, Country Lane Antiques in Fort Langley became Al’s Hobby House, the store where Steve Carell’s character buys supplies for his miniature Second World War village.
  • Colossal. In November 2015 the Anne Hathaway monster comedy spent a week at a Victorian house in Fort Langley. It’s a private home, so we’re not naming the street. The Advance Times also lists Colossal among films shot in downtown Langley City.
  • Twilight and Night at the Museum. Both are on a list of Fort Langley credits the Advance Times published in 2019. We couldn’t find out which scenes were shot here. (Most of Twilight was filmed in Oregon.)

Downtown Langley City

The City gets less attention than Fort Langley, but its downtown has a long list of credits. A Langley Advance Times roundup from the early 2020s listed them:

  • Good Boys: scenes on Fuller Lane, around McBurney, and in Brydon Park.
  • Needle in a Timestack: Douglas Park and the Serenade condo building.
  • Cats & Dogs 3 and You’re Bacon Me Crazy: McBurney Plaza and Linwood Park, in 2020.
  • Also shot in and around the downtown core: Disney’s Noelle, the Mark Wahlberg thriller Shooter, I Am Elizabeth Smart, Colossal and the Air Bud spin-off Super Buddies.

McBurney Plaza, the little square off the Fraser Highway one-way, is the City’s go-to stand-in for a small-town square. It turns up in a long run of holiday TV movies too; those are on our holiday movies page.

If a crew shows up on your block, know that the City has rules. Every production needs a City-approved film site liaison, a film permit and a business licence. Nearby residents have to be polled, and downtown businesses can be asked to sign off through the Downtown Langley Business Association. Questions go to the City’s filming line at 604-514-2997 or [email protected].

North Langley farms

Scary Movie 4 (2006) is the reason Langley has a western town. The MacInnes family has told the story: location scouts flew over their North Langley farm and thought it looked like Pennsylvania. The David Zucker spoof was sending up M. Night Shyamalan’s The Village, and it shot on the farm for more than a month in rain and deep mud. When filming ended, the family kept the buildings instead of letting them go to the landfill. A horse wrangler on a later production, Beyond Sherwood Forest, then suggested pulling them together into a western town. That town is Jamestown, home of When Calls the Heart since 2013.

The same farm now has a brewery, and that turned up on screen too. In Netflix’s Voicemails for Isabelle (June 2026), the outdoor beer garden where Wes gets advice from his friends is Locality Brewing. Unlike the set, the brewery is open to the public.

The studios

A lot of Langley movie-making happens behind gates. Martini Film Studios has its sound stages at 9390 198 Street, just off the 200 Street exit from Highway 1. In 2019 the Advance Times reported that Netflix had signed a five-year deal there soon after it opened. Voicemails for Isabelle worked out of Martini in the summer of 2025.

The company also owns Martini Town, a six-acre backlot on 272 Street in south Aldergrove. It has a New York-style brownstone street, a movie theatre with a lit marquee, a courthouse, a diner, a café and a town square. Founder Gemma Martini says it has been used for TV series, movies and commercials since 2020. It’s closed to the public except for the Merry & Bright Christmas event, which is on the holiday movies page.

Martini also rents out Fort Langley Airport, a private airfield near the village with big hangars and a 1.5 km runway it can close for filming. It’s a different place from the Township’s Langley Regional Airport. We couldn’t tie any particular movie to either airport.

Aldergrove

Netflix’s rom-com The Wrong Paris (2025, Miranda Cosgrove) used the Aldergrove farm that played the Kent farm on Smallville as the heroine’s family home in Texas. It’s private, so it’s a drive-by at most. The Bates Motel sets were in Aldergrove too, but that’s TV. See the TV page.

What we couldn’t confirm

We looked for features shot in Campbell Valley Regional Park, Derby Reach and at Langley Regional Airport, and didn’t find a source we trust for any specific title. Fan sites and “where was it filmed” blogs make plenty of claims we couldn’t check, so we left them out. If you were an extra, a location owner or crew on a Langley shoot and can point us to something published, tell us.

If a crew shows up on your street

The fluorescent arrow signs you see around Fort Langley and Aldergrove point crews to the set. Productions here need permits, and in Langley City the neighbours are polled before a shoot is approved, with a City-approved liaison on site. Shops on a set street usually stay open, and village businesses have told reporters the crews spend money locally and keep them in the loop. Please stay off private farms and front lawns, even ones you recognise from a movie.

Fort Langley was Fernfield, the hometown of the basketball-playing golden retriever, in 1997, and the franchise came back to the village to shoot Air Bud Returns in the fall of 2025.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 in Fort Langley

For about ten days in April 2021, Fort Langley was Green Hills, Montana: a fake coffee shop on Glover Road, the Community Hall as town hall, a tank in the street and Jim Carrey on a crane.
