The thing to do at ScanDesigns is sit down. The front of the Langley showroom is a long row of recliners, mostly Stressless and IMG, with a few H2 power recliners, each with its ottoman. Reviewers say nobody hurries you while you try out six of them to find the one that fits.

Gert Knudsen was born in Denmark and started ScanDesigns in 1976. It’s still a family company, now with six stores around BC. The Danish connection shows in what they stock: those recliners, and Skovby dining tables and chairs, which have a display of their own toward the back.

There’s more on the floor than chairs. They carry leather and fabric sofas and sectionals, sideboards, bedroom furniture, and Aireloom and Restwell mattresses. To give you a sense of price, when we checked their site, a leather dining chair was $299 and a leather recliner with ottoman was $1,499. The online catalogue shows the range, but call to check what’s actually in Langley.

If you’re picking up a purchase, call the pickup location named on your invoice the day before, so they can have it ready to inspect and load.

They’re open Monday to Friday 9:30 to 6, Saturday 9:30 to 5:30 and Sunday noon to 5. Remembrance Day hours are noon to 5, and they’re closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Phone 604-530-8248. Muse & Merchant, their sister home-décor store, shares the building.
