The Langley Centennial Museum is the Township’s community museum, and it has a new home. It moved across the street in Fort Langley into salishan Place by the River, an arts, culture and heritage centre. The Township says the building and the museum’s hours are the same, so one visit covers both.
What you will find
The current exhibit is Langley: Many Voices, Shared Place, which opened on June 27, 2026. The Township describes it as a small selection from the museum’s collection, telling community stories about how people have felt at home in Langley and built community together. The FAQ page says the main first-floor gallery will have shared local history exhibits, and a second-floor gallery will host shorter, rotating shows on arts, culture and heritage.
The collection is large. The Township’s FAQ says it is over 23,000 objects, still being moved into the building, and that the research room is closed while that happens. The collection is searchable online.
The centre itself has more than the museum. The Township’s opening announcement lists the Fort Langley Library, multi-purpose rooms, a printmaking studio, a coffee shop, a gift shop, an outdoor amphitheatre and an Indigenous Garden. The garden is an interpretive walk through culturally significant and medicinal plants, and it is free.
Programs
Programs are registered through the Township, online, by phone, or at any Township recreation centre. The events page lists children’s camps at the building, including Art Around the World, History Adventure Week, Eco Discovery and an archaeology camp. It also has pages for school programs, group tours and venue rentals.
Getting there
Street parking is available around the centre. There is an underground parkade open during business hours for guests, but its gate locks when those hours end.
A short history
The Township’s museum page says the museum began through the Native Sons of B.C., who bought the Hudson’s Bay Company storehouse in Fort Langley in the 1920s and opened it as a museum in 1931. The Langley Centennial Museum opened officially on July 1, 1958, as a centennial project. It spent 64 years in its galleries at 9135 King Street, which closed on September 30, 2022. The Township says over 1.3 million people have visited.
Nearby
Fort Langley is a good place to make a day of it. The Fort Langley National Historic Site is close, and so is the BC Farm Museum in season. For old buildings you can walk past, see our heritage sites page. The Township’s own events calendar and our events page list what is on.
