Before you book anything at Theatre in the Country, open the seating page on their website. It has a photo of the stage taken from every numbered table, so you can see exactly what your view will be. It’s a small thing that tells you the place is set up for people who have never done dinner theatre before.
A night out, start to finish
A dinner ticket gets you a numbered table on the floor and a meal from Over the Top Catering: roast beef carved at the buffet, marinated chicken thighs, pasta, two salads and two vegetables that change nightly, and cake brought to your table at intermission. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free and seafood-free versions are available, but you have to ask for them when you buy. A theatre-only ticket skips the dinner and puts you on the risers at the back, with free coffee, tea and punch.
They aren’t fully licensed. Wine, cider and beer are sold on opening and closing nights and at every Friday show.

Who’s behind it
Reg Parks was teaching drama at Maple Ridge Christian School when students and parents encouraged him to start a theatre. He and his wife Erin opened Theatre in the Country in 2013 in the old Whonnock Elementary gym in Maple Ridge, and the company moved to Langley in 2017. Reg is the artistic director and directs shows himself; Erin handles promotions and shoots and edits the promo videos and the video projections used on stage. They also run TIC Academy, with drama and musical theatre classes for kids and teens.
