#1 – 6263 202 Street, Langley, BC, V2Y 1N1Willoughby, off 200 Street (Township)

DirectionsOn 202 Street just south of 64 Avenue.

Five Roads opened in spring 2019 just off 200 Street, a block south of 64 Avenue. The Growler reported at the time that it was almost called Metal Edge Brewing. ## Who owns it

It’s independent, and it’s still run by the two founders. Aaron Fourt grew up in the Lower Mainland, then spent close to ten years studying and working in Asia and Australia. That’s where he saw how good beer and shared good times bring people together, which is the idea behind Five Roads. Charlie Chakal was born and raised in London, England, came to Canada about 35 years ago, and spent a long career in sales, including trading BC lumber. He’s a Chelsea and Canucks fan, and a father and grandfather. On the brewery’s own telling, Charlie is the father of a good friend of Aaron’s (The Growler’s 2019 piece calls them uncle and nephew).

A second taproom in Steveston opened in 2021 and closed at the end of January 2025. The Langley brewery is the one that carried on.

Its best-known beer is Permanent Resident IPA, which won gold for North American IPA at the 2021 Canadian Brewing Awards. These days the taproom also pours Daisy Chain Cider Co., the brewery’s own cider label, from four cider taps. That’s handy if someone in your group doesn’t like beer. On weeknights there’s usually something on, such as the Crib Club.
