- Township of Langley: Willoughby-Willowbrook
Willoughby is where a lot of the Township’s newer neighbourhoods are, with creeks, greenways, school fields and playgrounds worked into the layout. It’s also home to the Township’s Civic Facility and the Langley Events Centre, so a Saturday here can mean anything from a hockey game to a library visit.
Where it is
The Township’s background report for the Willoughby Community Plan puts Willoughby against Surrey, Langley City, Highway 1 and the farmland of the Agricultural Land Reserve. It’s made of several neighbourhoods, each with its own plan. Yorkson is the urban centre, around Willoughby Town Centre. Others include Routley, Latimer, Carvolth, Williams and Smith. The report says each neighbourhood is generally centred on an elementary school and a park, and mentions Routley Park and the Arbour Ribbon among the notable green spaces.
A short history
The report says Willoughby was once rural. The first Willoughby Community Plan was adopted in 1998 and set out ten neighbourhood plans. The Township has amended it many times since, and a plan update was underway in 2025 and 2026.
Parks and recreation
- Willoughby Community Park (7700 block of 202A Street): the Township’s listing mentions lit sports fields, tennis and pickleball, a spray park, an amphitheatre, play areas and picnic shelters.
- Yorkson Community Park: the north part has a spray park, an accessible playground the Township calls its largest, a synthetic turf field, picnic areas and washrooms. Access is along 80, 82 and 84 Avenue.
- Langley Events Centre: the big arena complex for hockey, lacrosse, basketball and concerts. See our Events Centre page and the teams that play there.
- A planned community centre: the Township’s project page describes a Willoughby Community Centre as planned, with an aquatic centre, fitness space, a gym and a library. It’s in the planning stage, so there’s no opening date yet. Check the project page for updates.
Shopping
The Township’s 2019 community profile describes the Willowbrook Shopping Centre and a stretch of big-box and service businesses along 200 Street, plus hotels near 200 Street and the Trans-Canada Highway. Smaller shops and services sit in the neighbourhood hubs along 72, 76 and 80 Avenue, as the plan background report describes.
Schools
The Langley School District’s list includes these schools in Willoughby: Richard Bulpitt, Willoughby, Langley Meadows, Lynn Fripps and R.C. Garnett Elementary, Yorkson Creek Middle and Peter Ewart Middle, and R.E. Mountain Secondary (7633 202A Street). School boundaries change from time to time, so use the district’s school locator.
Getting there
200 Street is the main road, with 208 Street also a transit corridor, according to the Township’s background report. The Carvolth Exchange is a bus loop and park-and-ride with express service to SkyTrain and the West Coast Express, plus local routes. Use TransLink’s trip planner for current routes.
