The Langley Events Centre, or LEC, just got a lot bigger. The Township of Langley built five new arenas next to the existing building, and they are now open. This page is the short version of what was built, who paid, and when it happened. For the original building and its teams, see our Langley Events Centre page.

What it adds

The Township’s project page describes three new ice arenas and two new dry-floor arenas, used for ice hockey, lacrosse and ball hockey. The dry floors sit on top of two of the ice sheets. That stacking is why the five arenas fit in one building. The Township says the main rink has about 1,000 seats, with suites above the ice, and that the other two ice sheets and the two dry floors each have about 350. Other reports, including Daily Hive, give about 1,200 fixed seats for the main rink, so check the LEC site before you plan around a number. Daily Hive also reports an underground parkade, a public skating lobby with skate rentals, and a restaurant.

Timeline

  • October 10, 2023: Council announced the project.
  • December 2023: Construction began.
  • March 2026: The Township reported the structure finished, with the roof and cladding substantially complete.
  • September 9, 2026: An opening celebration was set for 5:30 pm, according to the LEC’s announcement.
  • September 25, 2026: The Township’s page says the ARENAS are now open, with public skating among the programs.

Who paid

The Township lists the project value at $149 million. Daily Hive quotes a total budget of about $155 million, which it says includes elements added during construction, among them a $25 million underground parkade. We have not reconciled the two figures.

On funding, the LEC’s 2023 announcement says then-mayor Eric Woodward described the project as funded from development rather than property taxes. The Township’s amenity cost charges page lists the arenas among the projects those charges will help pay for, without giving amounts. The Langley Monitor reported in April 2026 that the Township’s 2026 capital budget drew on reserves and internal borrowing for this and Smith Athletic Park. We cannot see the full funding split on the pages we read, so we are not guessing at one.
