If it feels like there is a crane on every corner, you are not imagining it. Here is a plain list of the big public projects in both Langleys this fall, with the numbers the owners have published. Where a cost or date is missing, it is because the owner hasn’t posted one.
Smith Athletic Park (Township)
A soccer campus in Willoughby. The three outdoor turf fields opened on September 6, 2025, and an indoor field and training building is under construction. The Township lists a project value of $129.95 million and gives no completion date for phase two. Details: Smith Athletic Park.
ARENAS at Langley Events Centre (Township)
Three ice arenas and two dry-floor arenas, stacked, next to the existing LEC. Construction began in December 2023, and the Township’s page says the facility is now open. Project value: $149 million. Details: LEC expansion.
Surrey Langley SkyTrain (Province)
A 16-kilometre elevated extension from King George Station in Surrey to 203 Street in Langley City, with eight new stations including Willowbrook and Langley City Centre. The project’s June 2026 status report gives an approved budget of $5.996 billion and an expected in-service date of late 2029. That report says work continued at the Langley City Centre station site at 203 Street and Industrial Avenue and at the Willowbrook station site at 196 Street and Fraser Highway.
Highway 1 widening, 216 Street to 264 Street (Province and Canada)
About 10 kilometres of Highway 1 through the Township is getting HOV and EV lanes in each direction, a new Glover Road crossing (opened in spring 2024), a reconfigured 232 Street interchange and a replacement railway crossing east of Glover Road. The Province lists the cost as $345 million, shared by the federal and provincial governments. Its page, updated August 7, 2026, says the work is under construction and does not give a completion date.
Township roads and utilities
The Township’s capital page lists several road projects. Two examples from the Township’s own project pages: the 208 Street widening, phase 3 (76 Avenue to the 8100 block; $4.2 million; road work complete, landscaping due to finish in fall 2026) and phase 4 (8100 block to 84 Avenue; $5.5 million; in progress as of August 2026).
City of Langley recreation proposals
The City is planning, not yet building. Its Invest Langley City page describes an Al Anderson Memorial Pool expansion (current estimated capital cost $73 million) and a Timms Community Centre expansion combined with a performing arts and cultural centre (estimated $107 million). A non-binding community opinion vote ran with the October 2026 election; the City reports 4,998 ballots, or 22.9% of voters. The page reports no council decision and no construction dates. Borrowing would need a separate approval. See Al Anderson Memorial Pool and Timms Community Centre.
Willoughby Community Centre (Township)
Still in planning. The Township’s page lists a community aquatic centre with a 37.5-metre lap pool, a fitness facility, a gym, a library and meeting rooms. It gives no budget or schedule. Details: Willoughby Community Centre.
New schools in Willoughby (School District 35)
The Province lists two schools beside Smith Athletic Park as under construction, both with occupancy planned for fall 2027:
- Smith Secondary: grades 9 to 12, 1,900 student spaces, estimated project value $203 million.
- Smith Middle: grades 6 to 8, 900 student spaces, estimated project value $103 million, with a Neighbourhood Learning Centre offering child care.
