Langley School District 35 is the public school district that covers both the City of Langley and the Township of Langley. It is separate from either municipal government, which is useful to know when you are trying to work out who to call about a bus stop, a new school or a catchment line.
The district at a glance
The district’s own About page says it has 46 school sites, about 27,300 students, and nearly 5,000 staff. The page does not date those numbers. It also says the district offers French Immersion, Fundamental and Alternate programs. A full directory of schools is on the district site’s Find a School page.
Finding your school
The School Locator on the district’s site is the tool for working out your catchment neighbourhood school. You search by street address or by the name of your housing development. The district also publishes catchment maps for the current school year on a page linked from the locator. Catchments do shift as new schools open and neighbourhoods grow, so check it each year rather than relying on what a neighbour told you.
Registering
The district’s registration page splits things by grade and situation: Kindergarten, Elementary (Grades 1 to 7), Middle and Secondary, and Newcomers to Canada (K-12) for families with a work or study permit, permanent resident status or refugee status. There are also pages for homeschooling and student accident insurance. Each category has its own page with the steps, so start from the registration page. If you are stuck, call the district at 604-534-7891.
The calendar
The district’s calendar page has a year view and an important-dates section. Check there for school-year dates, closures and professional days.
Board meetings
The Board of Education’s regular meetings run at 7pm in the board room at the School Board Office. For 2026-2027 the district lists these dates: September 22, November 3 (the inaugural meeting), November 17, December 15, January 26, February 23, April 27, May 18 and June 15. Meetings are streamed live on Microsoft Teams, recorded, and published online with written summaries, and agendas and minutes are on the district’s meeting portal. The page we read does not describe how to register as a delegation, so ask the board office. See the board meetings page.
For parents
Registration and catchment. Start with the School Locator to find your catchment school, then follow the registration page for your child’s grade. The Kindergarten page says children who turn five by December 31, 2026 are eligible to start this school year, that you register online through MyEdBC (a laptop or desktop is recommended), and that you upload proof of age, citizenship, residence and guardianship. Registration for 2027-2028 begins in January 2027. If your child is accepted into a district choice program, you do not register at the catchment school.
School calendar. The district calendar lists dates, closures and professional days. The district also has a Langley Schools mobile app for news, calendar events and urgent alerts.
StrongStart. The district’s StrongStart centres are free, play-based drop-in sessions for children from birth to age five with a parent or caregiver, led by early childhood educators. Sessions run three hours, Monday to Friday during the school year, and no advance registration is needed. On your first visit the facilitator gives you a form, and you bring your child’s birth certificate. Each centre has its own phone number on the StrongStart page.
French Immersion and choice programs. The choice program page lists Early French Immersion (Kindergarten entry at Belmont and James Kennedy), Late French Immersion (Grade 6 entry at Alex Hope and Noel Booth), Fine Arts, Fundamental, Montessori, U-Connect and L.E.A.P. Applications for September 2027 entry run from October 5 to October 26, 2026 on the district’s APOC site, with a maximum of two choices per child. If there are more applicants than seats, a random draw decides. The Late French Immersion page describes the program as designed for students with no previous French and shows an expression-of-interest form for the parent information session.
MyEdBC parent portal. The MyEdBC Family/Student Portal is how parents and students see information about their educational programs. The district’s help page covers logging in, including with a BC Services Card, resetting a password and requesting assistance.
Contacting the board. Call 604-534-7891 or email [email protected], or visit the School Board Office at 4875 222 Street. The contact page also has a questions and feedback form.
