The Board of Education is the elected group that oversees public schools in Langley. It is separate from the City and Township councils, even though people in both Langleys vote for it. Seven trustees serve a four-year term, 2026 to 2030: two elected by City voters and five by Township voters. See who was elected.

What the board does

The BC School Trustees Association describes the board’s main job as setting direction: policy, a strategic plan, and the budget plan that goes with it. Staff handle day-to-day running of schools. The same guide says only the board as a whole can make decisions. Trustees debate and vote together, and individual trustees do not have legal authority on their own.

The district serves about 27,300 students at 46 school sites, according to its About page. For finding a school, registering or the school calendar, see our Langley School District 35 page.

Meeting schedule

The district lists these regular board meetings for 2026-27, all at 7:00 pm in the board room:

  • September 22, 2026
  • November 3, 2026 (inaugural meeting)
  • November 17, 2026
  • December 15, 2026
  • January 26, 2027
  • February 23, 2027
  • April 27, 2027
  • May 18, 2027
  • June 15, 2027

The district’s calendar shows the inaugural meeting on November 3 running 7:00 to 9:30 pm. It’s worth checking the district calendar for changes.

How to watch

Meetings are livestreamed on Microsoft Teams and recorded. They are published online with written summaries. The September 22, 2026 meeting was held in person and streamed online, and the district posted the video on its YouTube channel (@LangleySD35) with each agenda item linked to a time in the recording. Agendas and minutes are on the district’s meeting portal, which the board meetings page links to.

The September agenda gives a feel for what comes up: a strategic plan update, financial statements, policy changes, trustee work reports and a question period.

Contacting the board

Call the School Board Office on 604-534-7891 or email [email protected]. The pages we read don’t explain how to register as a delegation or how to send a letter to trustees, so ask the office when you call.
