Trinity Western University is on Glover Road, next to Fort Langley. TWU describes itself as a Christian liberal arts university, and the Langley campus is its main one. It has been here a long time: the university’s own history says it began in 1962 as Trinity Junior College, became Trinity Western College in 1972, and became a university in 1985.
How big it is
TWU’s facts page says it has more than 6,000 students, about 65 percent of undergraduates Canadian and the rest from the U.S. or elsewhere (January 2024 census), 48 undergraduate and 20 graduate degree programs, and seven schools and faculties. It also lists on-campus housing for 1,100 students. An average first-year class is 25. The Langley campus is listed as 60 acres in the ecological-study section, and TWU also has sites in Richmond and Ottawa.
TWU’s About page gives a rounder figure of 5,000 students, and neither page is dated, so treat the numbers as ballpark.
Things members of the public can do
- Use the library. The Alloway Library says anyone can use its resources on site. A community borrower card is $60 per year and lets you borrow books and CDs and use electronic resources on campus. Off-campus access to the licensed online resources is limited to TWU students, faculty and staff. See the library’s who may borrow page.
- Join the fitness centre. TWU’s page says a limited number of community passes are available. The listed community rates include a $5.20 drop-in and a $358.46 year pass, plus a one-time $10.50 card fee for first-time members. Confirm on the memberships page.
- Watch the Spartans. TWU’s Langley campus page says Spartans games take place on campus. We cover the teams on our Spartans page.
- Visit galleries and the chapel. TWU lists the Jacobson Gallery, the SAMC Gallery and the chapel as parts of the campus, but does not say what the public hours are, so check before you go.
- Walk the grounds, and book a campus tour through TWU.
Getting there
TWU’s directions page suggests, from the Lower Mainland, taking Highway 1 to Exit 66 (232 Street/Highway 10), south on 232 Street to Glover Road, then right on Glover. For transit, use TransLink’s trip planner, or call 604-953-3333. It does not list parking details on that page, so look at TWU’s security and parking pages.
