The Spartans are the varsity teams of Trinity Western University, on its campus in the Township of Langley. They compete in U SPORTS, the national university league, in the Canada West conference. If you like your sports close to home and the tickets friendly, a Spartans game is a good night out.
What they play
The Spartans’ site lists these sports:
- Men’s teams: basketball, cross country, disc golf, ice hockey, rugby, soccer, track and field and volleyball
- Women’s teams: basketball, cross country, disc golf, ice hockey, rugby sevens, soccer, track and field and volleyball
Each sport has its own schedule, roster and news page on the site.
Where to watch
The Langley Events Centre’s Teams page lists the Spartans in basketball, volleyball and hockey, so many home games are there. Our Events Centre page and teams page cover directions and the other tenants. The Spartans’ site does not list venues on its home page, so check each team’s schedule for where a game is.
Tickets
Ticket links on the Spartans site cover basketball, hockey and volleyball through Showpass, and there is a separate tickets page for soccer. Prices were not on the pages we read, so we have not listed any.
A short history
Trinity Western University says it was founded in 1962, and its main campus is in Langley. The Spartans’ own news archive says Spartan Athletics has been in Canada West since 1999. In May 2019 the Canada West conference voted the Spartans’ men’s and women’s hockey teams in, and the first Canada West hockey season was planned for 2020-21. The site also keeps a Hall of Fame, the Spartan Archives and a “Pro Spartans” page for alumni who play professionally.
