Why do we keep ending up here? Because it solves the group-dinner problem. Somebody wants a burger, somebody wants pasta, somebody is gluten-free, and the kid wants chicken strips. The menu at Sammy J’s covers all of it without anyone having to compromise much, and the family has been doing exactly that in Langley for thirty years.
What do we order? The blackened four-cheese penne, which is rich in the best way, and a plate of Blackjack Strips to share. The menu flags those strips as its spiciest dish, so plan your water. The cream of tomato soup is listed as Mom’s recipe, and it’s a good call on a wet night.
Is it good for families? Yes. Kids’ plates are $10 for 10 and under, there’s a vegetarian section and a gluten-friendly list (shared fryers, they warn you).
What’s the room like? Booths, dark wood, warm lighting and a lot of screens. It’s lively on game nights; the patio is the calmer seat when the weather allows.
Brunch? Weekends until 1 pm, with skillets, breakfast plates and a steak-and-eggs option. Worth knowing they open at 10 on Sundays for it.
Go if you’re feeding a group with six different opinions. Skip if you want a hushed, white-tablecloth evening; this is a neighbourhood grill and proud of it.
