Opus started in 1974 as a small picture-framing shop in Vancouver, founded by David van Berckel. Today it’s an independent, BC-owned art supply business with seven stores around the province. The Langley store moved to a new spot on Willowbrook Drive in August 2025. It’s bigger, has parking right outside, and has room for demos and printing work.
What’s on the shelves
- Paint: acrylic, watercolour and oil, including Opus’s own Opus Essential range, which added twelve new acrylic colours this year
- Paper: sketchbooks, drawing papers, pencils, pastels and markers
- Brushes, canvas and wood panels
- Framing: components to do it yourself, or custom framing done for you
- Printing: fine-art and card printing, mounting and custom surfaces
It’s a good stop whether you’re a working painter, a student with a supply list, or someone trying watercolour for the first time. Customers mostly talk about getting help picking the right materials for a project and finding what they came for. Prices range from about $20 for one of their notebooks to more for good brush sets.
Giving back
Every year Opus runs an Art Brings Us Together fundraiser, and each store picks a local cause. In 2025 the Langley store chose the She Defines Strength Foundation. This November and December, the campaign supports Ronald McDonald House BC & Yukon.
Before you go
It’s open every day from 10 to 6, and online orders can be picked up for free. Note that the map on their Langley web page still points to the old downtown spot; the store is now at unit 105, 20121 Willowbrook Drive. Call 604-533-0601.
