JMB is a good bet for a last-minute gift with someone’s name on it. It’s a family engraving shop that has been at it since 1985, and Jessica and Kyle are the third generation to run it. They do all the work in-house on two CO2 lasers and a fibre laser.

Their catalogue covers personalized water bottles and tumblers, hats with custom leather or faux-leather patches, stainless-steel pens, acrylic Christmas ornaments, and name tags, nameplates and awards. The prices are gift-sized. When we checked, a pen was $22, a patch hat $25 and an ornament $13.50. The team keepsakes, dog tags reading “Player of the Game”, make a nice end-of-season gift for a coach to hand out.

If you have something you want engraved, like a flask, a cutting board or a trophy, bring it in. That’s the bring-your-own program.

Two things to plan around. Everything is made after you order, so allow a few days: the ornament page quotes two to four days for local pickup. And the shop keeps trade hours, open Tuesday to Friday from 6:30 in the morning to 2:30 in the afternoon, and closed Saturday through Monday. Double-check your spelling before you hit order. Reviewers often say the detail comes out sharper than they expected.
