Since September there are four rinks in Langley running regular public skates, and one of them is brand new. They don’t share booking rules or prices, so here is how each one works, and which to pick for who’s skating.

The rinks

Township arenas. The Township runs drop-in skating and stick and puck hockey at the arenas in the Aldergrove Community Centre and the George Preston Recreation Centre. Both have a skate shop, with rental hockey skates in sizes 8 youth to 14 adult and figure skates in 8 youth to 11 adult, and helmet rentals. Admission, skate and helmet rental fees are on the Township’s skating page and its admission fees page, not copied here because they change.

The new ARENAS. The Township’s project page says the ARENAS at Langley Events Centre are open as of September 2026, with an opening celebration on September 9. The building has three ice sheets and two dry floors. The Events Centre posts its own community programming: all-ages, children (6 to 12), youth (13 to 18), parent and tot (0 to 5) and seniors (60+) public skates, plus stick and puck and drop-in hockey. Its sessions are listed on Arena 2 (Gold) and Arena 3 (Burgundy).

Langley Sportsplex. The Sportsplex on 91A Avenue in Walnut Grove runs separately from the Township and posts its own public skates, including an adults-only weekday session. Its times and prices are below.

Which skate for who

  • A family on a budget: the Township rinks. Aldergrove or George Preston, whichever is closer. A family pass is $15, taxes in, for up to five people in one household with no more than two adults (kids under 19). Rentals are extra: skates $3.50 and a helmet $1.25 each. So a family of four renting everything comes to $34. Bring your own gear and it’s $15.
  • A longer weekend skate: the ARENAS. All-ages skating runs Saturdays and Sundays, 1:15 to 2:45 pm, in Arena 3 (Burgundy). That’s 90 minutes. Family admission is $20 for two adults and two kids, $5 per extra child. On the registration page, rentals are $4.50 for skates and $3.50 for a helmet.
  • Toddlers: Parent and Tot at the ARENAS. Ages 0 to 5, Mondays and Wednesdays, 12:30 to 1:30 pm. The grown-up has to be 19 or older, on the ice, in skates, so plan your own skates too.
  • Seniors: the ARENAS 60+ skate. Tuesdays, 12:30 to 1:30 pm.
  • Adults only: Langley Sportsplex. 18+ skating Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 10:45 to 11:45 am, $8. No sticks, pucks or figure-skating routines, just skating.
  • A weekend skate at Sportsplex. All ages, Saturday and Sunday 2:15 to 3:30 pm, $7 a skater or $22 for a family of four. Everyone on the ice wears skates. Sportsplex says to come early because space is limited, and to call ahead since programs change. For rentals, it points you to The Hockey Outlet in the building, whose hours vary.
  • Sensory needs: ask about Sensory Skate in Aldergrove. The Township describes it as low noise, dimmed lights and fewer people, open to all ages and skill levels. Look for dates on the Township schedule or call Aldergrove at 604-857-4299.

Canlan Sports Langley Twin Rinks at 5700 Langley Bypass also advertises public skating, but it doesn’t post times or prices we could confirm. Call 604-532-8946 before you go.

The prices above were checked on October 25, 2026. The Township’s include taxes; the Events Centre and Sportsplex pages don’t say, so the total at the till may be a little different. Don’t mix them up either: the $15 family rate and the 23-hour booking window are Township rules only.

What it costs at the Events Centre

The Events Centre publishes these drop-in prices: infants and toddlers (0 to 3) free; children, youth and seniors $5; adults 19 to 59 $8; family (two adults and two children) $20, with $5 for each extra child. Drop-in hockey is $10 and goalies play free. Family pricing does not apply to drop-in hockey.

How to get on the ice

  1. Pick the session. Check the Township schedule or the Events Centre’s list for your age group. Parent and tot sessions need a parent or guardian aged 19 or older on the ice in skates.
  2. Register. At Township arenas, advance online registration is recommended for public skating and stick and puck, opening 23 hours before each session. In-person drop-in is allowed as space permits. The Events Centre recommends pre-registering for skates and requires it for adult and senior drop-in hockey, which is capped at 26 skaters and 2 goalies.
  3. Helmets. At Township public skates, everyone 12 and under must wear a helmet, and CSA-approved helmets are highly recommended for everyone. The Events Centre makes helmets mandatory for children 0 to 12 at all-ages and parent and tot skates, and for every child at the children’s skate.
  4. Hockey sessions. Full gear is required at stick and puck and drop-in hockey, and the Events Centre says to bring your own stick and puck. No slap shots at drop-in hockey and no scrimmaging at stick and puck.

Lessons

The Township says its new Learn to Skate program uses skill-based levels from Winter 2027, from preschool “Adult and Tot” through to children’s levels, with skill assessments recommended if you are unsure where to start. Lessons need CSA-approved helmets, not bike helmets, and the Township asks a guardian to stay in the building.

Holiday notes

The Events Centre lists no regular programming on December 25, an all-ages skate and stick and puck on January 1, and no regular programming on December 27 to 30 because of a girls’ hockey event. Check the schedule before you go, since Township holiday hours are posted separately on each centre page.
