Guiding has been in British Columbia since 1910, when the province’s first registered units opened in Sardis and Vancouver. In Langley today there are about 40 units, mostly meeting one weeknight a week in school gyms, church halls and community centres, from Sparks at age five to Rangers at seventeen.
If you remember Brownies: they’re Embers now. Girl Guides renamed the branch in 2023.
The four Langley districts
Girl Guides groups its units by area rather than by city boundary. Here’s roughly where each district meets, based on the official Unit Finder in October 2026. Days and places change every year, so check the finder before you sign up.
Langley Valley units meet at Douglas Park School, Timms Community Centre, Alice Brown Elementary, George Preston Recreation Centre, Belmont Elementary, and the United Church of Langley on Old Yale Road, where the Pathfinders and Rangers meet on Tuesday evenings.
Ottergrove units meet at Shortreed and Parkside Centennial elementary schools, the Aldergrove Field House, Aldergrove Community Centre and Aberdeen Elementary, mostly on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Willoughby units meet at Langley Meadows, R.C. Garnett and Donna Gabriel Robins schools, with every branch from Sparks to Rangers covered.
Telegraph Trail units meet at St. George’s Anglican Church in the village, plus Topham, West Langley, Gordon Greenwood and Dorothy Peacock schools.
How to join
- Create an account on the Girl Guides registration site.
- Search the Unit Finder by postal code, pick a unit, and register.
- Each unit’s own fee shows once you select it. If cost is a barrier, ask about the subsidy program.
