The Langley Community Services Society, or LCSS, is a non-profit that has been working in the Langleys since September 1971. Its own words for the goal: helping individuals and families enhance their lives. If you aren’t sure which door to knock on for family, work or newcomer support, this is a good first call.

What it offers

The LCSS site groups its work into a few areas:

  • Child and family services for children from birth to 14, including child care resource and referral, Family Place programs, Multicultural Family Navigators, and information and referral.
  • Family counselling, including community counselling, parent education and parent outreach, Family Success and Family Connections.
  • Employment services, such as Skills to Success and Mentor Bridging for Newcomers.
  • Settlement and integration services for immigrant and refugee families, including an Early Learning Program, community engagement work and Supporting Refugees.
  • Substance use services, including support for people affected by someone else’s substance use.
  • Other programs listed on the site: an Intensive Case Management Team, legal services, the Langley Local Immigration Partnership, Resilience BC and community housing.

The pages we read don’t give program hours, costs or eligibility rules, so phone the main number and ask about the specific service you need.

Where to go

There are two addresses. The main office is on 207 Street, and the Langley Welcome Centre, for newcomers, is on 201 Street. If you’re unsure which is right, the phone number above is the single line the site lists.

Donating

LCSS says it relies on government funding and on the generosity of individuals and organizations. It welcomes financial donations and gifts in kind, and its donations page also lists priority projects and funders and community partners.

Volunteering

The LCSS pages we could read didn’t describe volunteer roles, so we won’t promise any here. For a wider look at where to offer your time, see our volunteering guide. For other local causes, see charities and galas, and for what’s coming up, our events page.
