1 Fish 2 Fish has been downtown Langley’s fishmonger since 1998. Owner Heather Jenkins, a Langley local, co-founded it, and over the years she shifted the counter toward sustainable seafood. The market joined Ocean Wise in 2009, and three years later it won a Langley Environmental Hero award.
What’s at the counter
It changes with the season, so the website list isn’t a guarantee for any given day. Typically you’ll find:
- Wild salmon and other fin fish, fresh or frozen
- Shellfish: oysters, mussels, clams, prawns, crab and lobster
- Ready-to-go: smoked salmon, crab cakes, seafood pies and chowder fixings
- Ocean Wise-labelled choices, and a whole-sockeye event each year
Reviewers mostly mention finding fish you can’t get at the grocery store and counter staff who know their stuff and will cut things exactly how you want.
If you fish
Bring in your own recreational catch and they’ll clean it, portion it, pin-bone it, vacuum-seal it and freeze it. Details are on their catch page.
Hours and a heads-up
They’re open seven days: Monday to Thursday 10 to 6, Friday and Saturday 9 to 6, and Sunday 11 to 5. They close on New Year’s Day, Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving Monday and Christmas Day. The footer of their website still shows an old address; they’re at 102–20633 Fraser Highway now. Call 604-532-5226 or email [email protected].
The market also helps out locally. This summer it supplied food for the Langley Hospice Society’s Plates & Glasses on the Farm fundraiser. For more independent food shops, see Shop Local.
