Want to make your own soap, candles or bath bombs? Most of what you need is in this one big room on Fraser Highway. Voyageur has supplied home makers and small producers since 1992. The store has crates of soap bases, walls of fragrance oils, wax, wicks and jars, and a glassed-in workshop at the back.
Starter kits
Kits are the easy way in. They come with measured ingredients and instructions:
- Cold-process soap kits, including beeswax, goat’s milk and shampoo-bar recipes (the moisturizing kit was $38.80 when we checked)
- Bath bomb kits, like Black Raspberry Vanilla, with moulds, gloves and colour
- Lip balm and gloss kits, such as Buttercream Caramel at $24.70
For people already making
Once you’re hooked, the store also carries ingredients by the bag, candle wax, wicks and containers, cosmetic bases, and packaging for anyone selling at markets. Some items are only sold in the store. What’s listed online isn’t always on the shelf that day, so call ahead for anything specific.
Classes
Soap and candle-making classes run at the store; you register online. Reviewers keep mentioning the range of ingredients and staff who answer the “why did my soap do that?” questions.
Hours
Monday to Saturday 10 to 5:30, Sunday 11 to 5. Holiday hours are posted separately on their site.
