Wiser’s is a collector’s shop in the real sense. Chris Wise opened his first store, Chris’ Collectibles, when he was 15, and he’s still the owner. It’s tucked into an industrial unit off 201 Street, and inside are glass cases of single cards, walls of boxed games, a big tabletop-hobby section and tables where people play.
What’s here
- Sports cards, including hockey and vintage football
- Card games: Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, One Piece and more, sealed and as singles
- Tabletop: Warhammer miniatures, board games and role-playing games
- Painting supplies: Citadel, Vallejo and Army Painter paints (a Warpaints Fanatic pot was $4.95 when we checked), brushes and modelling tools
- Comics
If you’re hunting for one particular card, the website and their eBay store are worth a look before you drive over.
Game nights
Organised play is a big part of the shop, and Friday hours run until 11 pm for it. The schedule changes month to month, so check their latest game-night post. In October they ran a Riftbound tournament where half of each $20 entry went to charity.
Beckett, the card-collecting magazine, picked Wiser’s as its Canadian Hobby Shop of the Week back in 2020.
Hours
It’s open every day, 11 to 7, and Friday until 11. Call 604-882-7616 or email [email protected]. Google lists the unit as B4 while the shop says B2, so just follow the Wiser’s sign.
