- The road
- 248 Street through Aldergrove and the Otter district of the Township of Langley, running north from near the US border
- What to call it
- A group of local businesses promote themselves together as the Historic Otter 248th Trail. We could not find a signed route on the road, so we call it the 248 Street corridor and treat that trail as the businesses' own joint name
- Open when
- It depends on the stop, and several change by season. Each stop below links to its own hours
- Last checked
- October 27, 2026
The road has a soldier’s name, and it came from two of his men. According to the Destination Fraser Valley listing for the trail, John William Best named Otter Road after Colonel William Dhillon Otter, and Best and his neighbour Robert Brown had both served under the colonel in the North West Rebellion. Otter later commanded the first Canadian contingent in the South African war.
The same listing names the partners behind the Historic Otter 248th Trail: Kensington Prairie Farm, Otter Co-op, Bonetti Meats, JD Farms Specialty Turkey, Krause Berry Farms and Estate Winery, Thunderbird Show Park, Locality Brewing and Loft Country. We have left Loft Country off the map and the route below because we have not confirmed its address or hours from a source of its own. Otter Trail Winery isn’t in that partner list, but it sits on the same road between Bonetti and Krause, so it’s here too.
Here is the road from south to north, with the practical bits.
1. Kensington Prairie Farm, 1736 248 Street
An alpaca farm that also keeps camels, emus, donkeys and pigs, with an on-farm boutique selling alpaca fibre goods. The farm’s own site lists visiting hours of Friday noon to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday noon to 4 p.m., closed Monday to Thursday, and says gates close 30 minutes before closing time. It also lists private educational tours, alpaca walks and children’s alpaca birthday parties. Its Alpaca & Artisan Holiday Market is set for December 5 and 6, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with 20-plus vendors and a visit with Santa. Tickets are sold through the farm’s site.
2. Otter Co-op, 3650 248 Street
A member-owned store that has been in Aldergrove since 1922. Our Otter Co-op page has the history, what’s inside and how membership works, and the gas bar is next door at 3600. It’s the practical stop: fuel, groceries, hardware and farm supplies.
3. Bonetti Meats, 3986 248 Street
A neighbourhood butcher shop and Italian specialty store. The shop’s site says the Bonetti family has lived in the Township and run a butcher shop for over 50 years, and that it is closed Sunday and Monday, so this is a Tuesday-to-Saturday stop. It makes its own lasagna: frozen is usually in the freezer, but fresh needs 48 hours’ notice, and the shop takes orders on 604-856-2187. We wrote up a visit in our Bonetti Meats review.
4. Otter Trail Winery, 5974 248 Street
A restaurant winery. Our Otter Trail Winery page covers the wines, which come from the winery’s own vineyard in Oliver rather than from grapes grown on 248 Street, plus the menu and the live music.
5. Krause Berry Farms and Estate Winery, 6179 248 Street
The farm says it has been family owned and operated since 1974. The farm’s own listing for the Circle Farm Tour mentions u-pick or pre-picked berries, a winery, waffles, a market, a bakery, pumpkins and Christmas, and a busy weekend draws a crowd. Read our fall visit write-up for how to dodge the crowd, or the winery page. Its site is promoting an after-hours Christmas shopping evening on Saturday, November 7, 6 to 9 p.m., with ticket proceeds going to Colorectal Cancer Canada.
6. Thunderbird Show Park, 6975 248 Street
Langley’s big equestrian venue, with hunter and jumper tournaments and FEI Grand Prix competitions. Our Thunderbird page has the 2027 season and how to buy tickets. The spectator entrance and the main show office (on 72 Avenue) are different gates, so use the right pin.
7. Locality Brewing, 7111 252 Street
A farm brewery just east of 248 Street, on 252 Street, with picnic tables among the hop rows and rotating food trucks. See our Locality Brewing page.
8. JD Farms Specialty Turkey, 24726 52 Avenue
A turkey farm with a store, a deli and a bistro, on 52 Avenue near 248 Street. The farm’s site lists store hours of Monday to Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and bistro hours of Monday to Saturday 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It says the family-run farm has been raising turkeys for over 30 years and is now managed by the founders’ children. Our JD Farms write-up explains how holiday turkey ordering works.
Putting a day together
Bonetti is closed Sunday and Monday, and Kensington Prairie is closed Monday to Thursday, so Friday and Saturday are the two days when both are open. On a Saturday, start south at Kensington Prairie when it opens at 10, shop at Otter Co-op and Bonetti on the way north, and finish with lunch at the JD Farms bistro. Check each stop’s own page before a Sunday drive, because hours differ and several change by season.
Several of these stops are also on the self-guided Langley Circle Farm Tour, whose 2025 guide lists the addresses we used above. That guide is last year’s, so we checked each business’s own site for hours.
For the rest of the countryside, see our rural Langley guide and the Aldergrove neighbourhood guide.
