Krause Berry Farms & Estate Winery

DirectionsOn 248 Street between 60 and 64 Avenues. Otter Trail Winery is just to the south on the same road.

Most people come to Krause for the waffles, the pie or the u-pick, and some never notice there’s a winery here at all. It’s worth finding: this is where Langley’s fruit wine is made, from berries grown in the fields you just walked past.

Who owns it

Krause is still owned and run by the family that started it. In 1974 Alf Krause planted one acre of strawberries. He and Sandee Krause built it into the farm it is today, about 200 acres of berries plus a market, bakery and kitchen, and they still own and operate it. The winery came later; the farm doesn’t publish the year it opened.

The wines

Everything here is fruit wine, and none of it is grape. The list follows the farm: strawberry, raspberry, golden raspberry, rhubarb-strawberry, blueberry, tayberry, apple and pear. They come in sparkling and frizzante styles, plus dessert wines and a port-style the farm calls “Portoe.” It’s all poured at a western-themed tasting bar.

If you’ve only had sweet country fruit wine before, the sparkling golden raspberry and the rhubarb with strawberry are the ones that have impressed judges lately (see below).

Before you go

  • Fall is busy. October is pumpkin-patch and corn-maze season, and weekends fill up. Our fall visit write-up has tips for avoiding the Saturday crowds.
  • Leave the dog at home. Pets aren’t allowed at the main farm, market or fields.
  • Coming up in 2026: an after-hours Christmas shopping night on November 7, and a cookbook signing with Mary Berg on November 14. Check the farm’s site for details.
  • Make a day of 248 Street. Otter Trail Winery is just down the road, and the Otter Co-op is at the south end of the corridor. Krause is a stop on the Circle Farm Tour; see farming and agriculture in Langley.

Awards and recognition

From the farm’s winery awards page and the competitions themselves:

  • 2026 National Wine Awards of Canada: medal in the fruit wine category for the Sparkling Golden Raspberry. WineAlign’s results page doesn’t state the medal level in its text. WineAlign
  • 2025 All Canadian Wine Championships: Double Gold for Rhubarb with Strawberry. Also gold for the Golden Raspberry Frizzante, silver for the Frosted Apple Dessert and Strawberry Dessert wines, and bronze for the Pear Apple.
  • 2024 All Canadian Wine Championships: Double Gold for the Sparkling Strawberry.
  • 2023 Finger Lakes International Wine Competition: gold for the Pear.
  • 2021 Greater Langley Chamber of Commerce, Employer of the Year, as listed on the farm’s About page.

Not drinking? You’d struggle to find a better winery for it. The bakery, the waffle bar, the market and the fields are most of the reason people come.
