Looking for work in Langley? You don’t have to do it alone, and most of the help is free. Here are the questions people ask most, answered with where to go.

Where do I start?

At a WorkBC Centre. There are two in Langley, and their services are free.

  • Anyone can walk in and use the self-serve resources: computers with internet, phones, a photocopier and a scanner. Staff can help you fill in the WorkBC Online Employment Services application.
  • If you qualify for one-on-one help (WorkBC looks at your work situation and whether you’re legally able to work in BC; people with unsteady hours or income can be assessed too), you get a career coach, in person, online or through outreach. Temporary residents’ eligibility depends on their status and documents.
  • Workshops cover résumés, cover letters, interviews and choosing a career.

Willowbrook is open Monday, Tuesday and Friday 9 am to 5 pm, Wednesday and Thursday 9 am to 6:30 pm, and Saturday 10 am to 3 pm. Aldergrove is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 9 am to 5 pm and Wednesday 11 am to 7 pm. Both are closed statutory holidays, and both serve clients in English and French. The Langley centre lists wheelchair access, screen readers and TTY phones.

Can WorkBC help pay for things?

Yes, if you’re an assessed client. WorkBC can help with transportation, dependent care and essential work gear. It can also support training (tuition, books, and sometimes living or child care costs while you train), depending on your situation. Its wage subsidy helps eligible job seekers get hired for on-the-job training. And if you’d rather work for yourself, the Langley centre helps with business ideas, plans and getting started.

I’m young and new to working. Anything for me?

The Langley Community Services Society runs Skills to Success: paid classroom training followed by a work placement. Its page lists ages 16 to 30. LCSS’s two pages give the program length as 16 and 18 weeks, so call 604-534-7921 to ask about the next intake, age rules and pay. LCSS also helps with résumés, interview skills and work experience. More on the society is on our LCSS page.

I’m new to Canada. Who can help?

LCSS’s Mentor Bridging pairs newcomers with a professional mentor from a similar field, for six months and at least four meetings. Start with our new to Canada guide for your SIN and other first steps.

I have a disability. What’s out there?

  • Inclusion Langley supports job seekers with developmental disabilities: customized employment, supported self-employment, job coaching and follow-up. Call 604-534-8611, extension 232.
  • WorkBC Assistive Technology Services helps when a disability or functional limitation gets in the way at work: ergonomic equipment, interpreting, communication devices and workplace changes. It has its own eligibility check, and costs can be fully or partly covered.

How do the big local employers hire?

Each one has its own route, and sending your résumé the wrong way can mean it’s never seen.

  1. Township of Langley. Apply online, separately for each job. You can sign up for email job alerts. External postings are open to anyone; internal ones are for current staff.
  2. City of Langley. Apply to current competitions on the City’s careers page, with documents in Word or PDF and any certifications asked for.
  3. Langley School District. Teaching, support staff and other roles are all through Make a Future, the district’s official system. Don’t email your application.
  4. Fraser Health. Search its careers site by profession, category and location, and choose Langley for jobs at the hospital and local sites. Categories range from food services and housekeeping to clerical, trades and corporate jobs.
  5. Pattison Food Group. Its Langley office hires in operations, marketing, finance, IT, HR and more, through its careers page.
  6. Otter Co-op. Openings are listed by role and community, including Langley and Aldergrove. More on the co-op on our Otter Co-op page.
  7. Centra. Send a general expression of interest to [email protected] with the kind of role you want and your experience. That’s separate from applying for a posted job.

The Greater Langley Chamber of Commerce also has a job search page on its website. See our Chamber page.

How do I keep up with new postings?

  • Job Bank (the federal job site) sends free daily or weekly email alerts for your keywords and location, and you can set up several searches.
  • WorkBC Career Profiles let you look up any job to see the education it needs, what it pays and how many openings are expected in the region.
  • Township career alerts email you when new Township jobs are posted.
