The two Langleys run their own collection, so the rules depend on which side of the boundary you live on. If you’re not sure, see City vs. Township.
Township of Langley
Garbage carts and Green Carts (organics) are collected from the curb. Recycling goes in blue boxes, grey boxes and yellow bags, which the Township provides free. You can set out as much recycling as you like if it’s sorted into the right container.
- Find your days: type your address into the Collection Calendar at tol.ca/calendar. A printable 2026 calendar is there too. If only recycling shows up, your address may not get municipal garbage and organics (common in some rural areas and stratas). Email [email protected] if you think it should.
- Set-out time: carts and recycling should be at the curb by 7:30 am on collection day. The Township asks you not to put garbage out before 8:00 pm the night before.
- Reminders and app: you can sign up for email, text or voice reminders, or use the mobile app. Choose “Township of Langley” when you set it up. The reminder service is run by Recycle Coach.
- Online requests: change your cart size, book a Large Item Pick Up, or ask for more recycling containers (allow up to three weeks). Extra boxes and yellow bags can also be picked up at the Civic Facility, 20338 - 65 Avenue.
- Not sure where something goes? The Township’s “What Goes Where” tool and printable guides in English, Simplified Chinese, Korean and Punjabi help.
City of Langley
The City’s page names two collectors. Garbage and organics are collected by Emterra Environmental (604-635-0999), and recycling by GFL Environmental (778-765-3662). The City’s page links to a 2026 garbage and organic collection schedule (PDF) for your days.
In 2025 the City began a cart program for single-family homes and non-strata townhomes. Each home gets one 240-litre garbage cart and one 240-litre organics cart. Collection days stayed the same. The City’s set-out rules say to put carts at the curb by 7:30 am with the wheels facing the house, keep them one metre from other objects, keep the lids closed, and store them on your property.
The City page doesn’t mention an app, so check with the City if you want reminders.
Holidays and snow (both)
Both pages say collection runs on statutory holidays as usual, except January 1 and December 25, when it moves one day later. In snow or ice, pickup may be delayed. If it’s missed, the contractor will try later that day or the next, and otherwise at your next scheduled collection. Keep your bins clear of snow. The City lists an extra yard waste pickup pilot from October 19 to November 27.
