The Langley Arts Council describes itself as a catalyst, facilitator and education hub for creative arts and culture, serving its members, its member groups and the wider Langley community. The City of Langley describes it as a community-based arts organization that provides resources and support for art, and develops programs in visual art, 3-D art and performing art.
What it does
According to the City, the Council hosts events and workshops through the year. The council’s own site is where to look for the current list. The pages we could read didn’t give a street address or phone number for the Council, so we haven’t listed one; use the website to get in touch.
The Walkway Gallery
The Council runs the Walkway Gallery on the main floor of the Timms Community Centre, on the walkway leading to the library. When it opened in December 2016, local reports said it was a permanent gallery with art on the walls that would change regularly, free for everyone to view. The Council’s president said at the time that the goal was to give residents a sense of community and culture.
The City’s gallery page lists what’s showing, and was current when we checked:
- Beyond Barriers, a group show, July 3 to August 20
- Kate Major, a solo show, August 21 to October 8
- Breanne Wish, a solo show, October 9 to January 7, 2027
Gallery hours aren’t listed on that page; the City office is open Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, and the library and centre have their own hours.
Other galleries and art around the City
The City also lists A Step Above Cultural Gallery on the second floor of the Timms, a community gallery at the Douglas Recreation and Child Care Centre, and a free little art gallery where youth can show and swap artwork. The City also lists a Mural Walk, a year-round route past public murals in Langley City, which you can download as a PDF.
