There is no single Langley ceremony. There are four, each run by the people who live nearby. Pick the one closest to you and plan to arrive early. Dress warmly, because all four are outdoors.
A note on sources. Where a 2026 time is published, we say so. Where it isn’t, we give last year’s and label it. Please check the organiser before you leave home.

We didn’t find a Township listing for a public ceremony in Walnut Grove, Brookswood or Willoughby. The Township’s lists name three: Aldergrove, Fort Langley and Murrayville.
The poppy
The Royal Canadian Legion’s National Poppy Campaign runs October 24 to November 11 this year. The Legion says donations support veterans and their families, and money raised locally stays in the community. Veterans Affairs Canada says to wear it on the left lapel, or near your heart if you have no lapel. Many people leave theirs at the base of the cenotaph at the end of the service.
What to do on the day
- Arrive early and stand where the organisers ask.
- Keep phones quiet and children close.
- At 11:00 am, stop and be still for two minutes. At the services we checked in 2025, the Last Post was played and the silence followed.
- Take your lead from the organisers. At Fort Langley in 2025, veterans and anyone with a chair could sit after the Navy Hymn.
- If you can’t attend, watch online. In 2025, Aldergrove, Fort Langley and Murrayville were all livestreamed.
Why the crosses
Fort Langley’s organisers say the cenotaphs at Fort Langley and Murrayville are matching stone Celtic crosses, unveiled in 1920 after returned soldiers led a community fundraiser. Names of the Second World War dead were added later. Murrayville’s draws hundreds of people now. An Aldergrove Star report in May 2026 said Fort Langley’s has a cracked cross and a tilt and is being repaired, so check the organisers’ page for any change.
Langley City once had its own cenotaph on 56 Avenue. The Legion branch that cared for it dismantled it in 2011, and Veterans Affairs Canada lists it as in storage. The Douglas Park ceremony carries on.
