The fudge, and the Cuban Crunch

Into Chocolate is the candy shop kids drag their parents into, and the parents don’t mind. Half of it is nostalgia: British sweets, liquorice, pick-and-mix and the retro candy you forgot existed, next to the Canadian favourites. The other half is the good stuff they make themselves.

How it got here

  • 2006: A sweet shop called Ruby Slipper Specialty Co. opens in Fort Langley.
  • 2008: Delaine Willms, who’d been making chocolates for years, earns a professional chocolatier designation from Ecole Chocolat.
  • November 2009: Delaine and her husband Doug buy Ruby Slipper and start Into Chocolate.
  • June 2012: A second shop with a chocolate-making kitchen opens in Cloverdale.
  • August 2016: The Fort Langley shop moves into a bigger unit in the Coulter Berry Building and adds a fudge kitchen.
  • 2021: Finalist for small-business retail at the Clovies, Cloverdale’s business awards.
  • 2025: Cloverdale closes, and all the chocolate-making and packing moves to an expanded space in Fort Langley.

So everything made by Into Chocolate is now made right here in the village.

What to get

The fudge is made in the shop’s kitchen. The Cuban Crunch ($4.50) is the one to try if you like salty-sweet: milk chocolate and peanut butter with peanuts and crushed potato chips, so it’s salty, sweet and crunchy at once. For a gift, the eight-piece Belgian chocolate box is $19.50. With 224 Google reviews averaging 4.7, the common thread is that it works for kids and adults alike.

Before you go

It’s open every day, 10 to 6. You can also order online and pick up in the shop, or call 604-881-2232. Emilia & Rose, a home and gift boutique, is in the same building. Look for Into Chocolate in the Fort Langley May Day parade, too. Other sweet stops are on Shop Local, and there’s more to do in the Fort Langley village guide.
