The Greater Vancouver Zoo sits on 264 Street (Highway 13, the Aldergrove-Bellingham Highway) in Aldergrove. It is one of the bigger family outings in Langley, so it is worth knowing the rules and the rates before you arrive.
Getting there
The zoo’s directions: from Highway 1, take Exit 73 and go about 1.4 km south, with the zoo on the left. From Fraser Highway, go about 3.7 km north on 264 Street, with the zoo on the right.
What’s on offer
The zoo’s Experience page lists animal spotlights, a Wallaby Walkthrough, a Mesozoic Adventure, inflatable adventure parks, a train, keeper talks, behind-the-scenes tours, zoo camps, birthday parties and a Night in the Wild. It also lists events called Arctic Nights and Brew at the Zoo. We have not seen dates for those, so check the zoo’s site for what is on when you plan to go.
The zoo says it focuses on conservation of three local species: Taylor’s Checkerspot butterfly, the Oregon spotted frog and the western painted turtle.
Accessibility
The zoo describes about 120 acres with 3 km of wheelchair-accessible paved pathways. Motorized wheelchairs are allowed, and electric mobility aids are limited to 7 km/h. Adult caretakers enter free with an Access 2 Card, which has to be shown at the gate. The zoo does not allow hoverboards, scooters, powered ride-on toys or other motorized recreational equipment, but suggests non-motorized bikes, scooters, rollerblades, skateboards or wagons.
House rules to know
From the zoo’s policies:
- Don’t feed or touch the animals unless a keeper gives permission.
- No outside food or drinks, though bottled water is fine. If you leave, a hand stamp lets you back in the same day.
- The zoo is smoke-free and vape-free. Smokers can get a hand stamp to re-enter after smoking in the parking area.
- No balloons, confetti, drones or flash photography of animals.
- Children 12 and under must be with an adult.
- Pets are not allowed, though certified service dogs are permitted under the zoo’s Service Dog Policy.
- Visitors may be photographed or filmed; the zoo asks anyone who wants to use photos or video commercially to get written consent first.
