If you have never seen box lacrosse, here is the quick version: it is played indoors, it is fast, and it is physical. The Langley Thunder play it at the senior level in the Western Lacrosse Association, and their home is the Langley Events Centre.
The league
The WLA’s website lists seven teams: the Burnaby Lakers, Coquitlam Adanacs, Langley Thunder, Maple Ridge Burrards, Nanaimo Timbermen, New Westminster Salmonbellies and Victoria Shamrocks. The league site has stats, news, photos and video.
Where and how
The Thunder’s site names the Langley Events Centre as its home arena and links a “Directions to Arena” page. For parking and getting there, see our Events Centre page. The team site has a schedule, game calendar and standings. Tickets are sold through Showpass, and there are group packages. We did not find prices on the pages we read, so check the site.
The team also has a Game Day Fan Zone and a video page, and it posts news on its social accounts.
More Thunder
The Events Centre’s Teams page shows the Thunder under three leagues: the WLA, BC Tier 1 Lacrosse and BC Junior A Lacrosse. Each has its own website, linked on our teams page.
A short history
The Thunder’s own history page traces the team through a few homes:
- 1994: the team joins the WLA as the North Shore Indians
- 2000-01: it moves to Kelowna as the Okanagan Thunder
- 2002-03: it returns to the North Shore for two seasons
- 2004: it settles in Langley
- 2009: it begins playing at the Langley Events Centre, its home since then
- 2011, 2012 and 2022: the Thunder win the WLA championship and the Ted Fridge Trophy
- 2011: Langley hosts the Mann Cup
The Thunder’s site also says the team has a community night that has raised money in past seasons.
