Peter Fassbender was a Langley City councillor, then mayor from 2005 to 2013, before moving to provincial politics as a BC Liberal MLA and cabinet minister. This page summarizes his published record.

Background

The BC Legislature’s biography says he worked in radio, television and other communications fields, and spent 29 years as a partner and senior executive at DDB Canada, formerly Palmer Jarvis. Wikipedia adds that he served on the Langley school board from 1975 to 1979 and was a Langley City councillor from December 2002.

In office

Wikipedia and the Legislature page say he was elected mayor in the 2005, 2008 and 2011 civic elections. Wikipedia lists him as vice-chair of TransLink’s Mayors’ Council, co-chair of a Fraser Health municipal advisory council, and, from November 2012, chair of the board of the BC Pavilion Corporation. It says he was elected MLA on May 14, 2013 and took leave from the mayoralty.

After office

  • MLA for Surrey-Fleetwood, May 2013 to May 2017.
  • Minister of Education from June 2013 to July 2015, then Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development, also responsible for TransLink, from July 30, 2015 (Wikipedia and the Legislature).
  • He lost his seat in the 2017 provincial election (Wikipedia).
  • In 2018 he ran again for City mayor. Global News reported that Val van den Broek won with 2,446 votes to his 2,240.
