Val van den Broek was elected mayor of the City of Langley in October 2018 and served until 2022. She had been a City councillor for one term. This page summarizes what news outlets published.

Background

During her 2018 campaign the Langley Advance Times reported about 20 years in government work, including time as a federal public servant with the RCMP and corrections, as the Langley City RCMP community policing coordinator and as an auxiliary constable volunteer. It says she has lived in Langley since 2000, chaired the Public Safety Advisory Committee and was vice-chair of the Parks and Environment Advisory Committee.

In office

Global News reported that she won the 2018 race with 2,446 votes, just over 200 ahead of Peter Fassbender with 2,240; a third candidate, Serena Oh, received 146. We have not yet sourced specific council decisions from her term.

How the term ended

Global News reported that she lost her 2022 re-election bid, with Nathan Pachal, a councillor since a 2016 byelection, projected the winner.
