Stanley Jack “Jack” Froese was mayor of the Township of Langley for eleven years, from late 2011 to late 2022. This page collects what Wikipedia, Global News and other outlets have published about him. It is a neutral summary, not a review.
Background
Wikipedia, citing earlier local news coverage, says Froese graduated from Abbotsford Senior Secondary in 1972, moved to Langley in 1979, bought a farm and operated JD Farms Specialty Turkey. It also says he worked as a Vancouver Police Department officer until retiring in 2004.
In office
Wikipedia reports that Froese won the mayor’s chair in 2011 by defeating the incumbent, Rick Green, and was re-elected in 2014 and 2018. The same article lists the following, each attributed there to news coverage:
- He served as vice-chair of the Mayors’ Council on Regional Transportation, and received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012.
- Township spending of $7.7 million on an expansion of the Langley Events Centre.
- A pledge of $27 million toward widening Highway 1 between Langley and Aldergrove.
- Votes at the regional Mayors’ Council on a SkyTrain extension from Surrey to Langley City and on replacing the George Massey Tunnel.
For the Township’s own account of these projects, see its annual reports and council minutes.
After office
In April 2022 Froese confirmed he would not run again; Global News reported that he “has confirmed he will not run again” in the October 15, 2022 election, with councillors Eric Woodward and Blair Whitmarsh, former councillor Michelle Sparrow and former MLA Rich Coleman seeking the job. Global News projected that Woodward won.
Business and community affiliations
Wikipedia names JD Farms Specialty Turkey, a Langley turkey farm he operated, and his Mayors’ Council role. The Aldergrove Star reported that, as mayor, he presented the Diamond Jubilee community-builder medal to former mayor Kurt Alberts at Douglas Day in 2012.
