Kurt Alberts was mayor of the Township of Langley from 1999 to 2008. Before that he worked for the Township as a planner. The main published source is a 2012 Aldergrove Star report on his Diamond Jubilee Medal.

Background

The Aldergrove Star says Alberts graduated from the University of Waterloo and worked as a planner in Ontario before moving to British Columbia. He and his wife moved to Fort Langley in 1981. From 1981 to 1997 he was the Township’s director of community development.

In office

The paper credits his planning work with Langley being recognised as a Regional Town Centre in the regional Livable Region Strategy in 1996, a few years before he became mayor. It also says he helped develop Walnut Grove and the Township’s Rural Plan, and worked on green-space projects including the Fort-to-Fort Trail, the Hope Redwoods natural area and the West Creek Wetlands.

After office

On November 19, 2012, at the Township’s Douglas Day banquet, then-mayor Jack Froese presented him with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, which the Township gave as a community builder award.

Business and community affiliations

The Aldergrove Star says Alberts and his wife run the Birthplace of B.C. art gallery in Fort Langley, and that he has been honoured for heritage conservation and for volunteer work as a Rotarian.
