The grill at Avishan runs on gas, not charcoal, and the restaurant says so on purpose. Its own pages explain that the clean flame gives each skewer a proper char without smoke or soot. It’s a small, specific choice, and it fits a menu that is mostly about doing a few things well: kebabs, saffron rice, a grilled tomato and a chopped salad on the side.

What’s on the menu

Nearly everything starts on a skewer. A few plates and the menu prices when we checked on Oct 31, 2026:

  • Koobideh: seasoned ground lamb, about $22
  • Chicken kebab: marinated chicken breast, grilled with zucchini, about $24
  • Barg: lamb tenderloin, about $28
  • Soltani: koobideh and barg together, about $40
  • Shishlik: a whole grilled rack of lamb, about $40

Salmon and vegetable kebabs, a rib eye and a T-bone are on there too, and so is kashk-e bademjan, eggplant with whey, mint and fried onion. For a big night there’s a one-kilo tomahawk steak that serves two; they ask for two days’ notice. The full menu has the rest.

Who runs it

Saman Hassan Nia opened Avishan in March 2018 after buying the space and renovating it, according to a Langley Insiders profile. He told the paper his wife, Maryam, has worked alongside him the whole way. The restaurant’s own pages talk about “Chef Saman” and sum up the approach in one line: a meal should feel like a welcome.
