Maple Thai is a small family restaurant run by Ken and Mol, who were both born and raised in Thailand. They spent more than ten years cooking in busy Thai restaurants around Canada before opening their own on 272 Street in April 2023, and named it after their daughter.

What to order

The menu is the familiar Thai lineup, done by people who’ve cooked it for a long time:

  • Khao soi: the northern Thai curry noodle soup, with chicken, a coconut curry broth and crispy noodles on top. It’s the dish they put front and centre in their own photos.
  • Noodles: pad Thai, drunken noodles and pad see ew
  • Curries: red, green and yellow
  • Dessert: mango sticky rice, and Thai iced tea to go with it
  • Vegan: a separate section of the menu, not just “ask us to leave out the fish sauce”

You can pick your heat level, which matters if your table runs from mild to fire. The restaurant is listed in Thai SELECT, the Thai government’s program recognizing Thai restaurants abroad, in its Casual category.

Eating in or taking out

It’s a compact dining room with red-and-black trim and Thai art on the walls. Takeout is easy too: they have their own online ordering.

Hours

Open Monday, and Wednesday to Sunday. Weekdays they open at 11 am; Saturday and Sunday at noon. Most nights they close at 8:45, Friday and Saturday at 9. Closed Tuesdays. Call 604-362-3166.
