Most people find The Lodge by accident the first time: you’re at the George Preston Recreation Centre for a skate or a curling game, you notice a steakhouse upstairs, and you make a note to come back without the kids’ hockey bags. It’s a proper sit-down dinner spot, with a timber ceiling, long leather banquettes and big windows looking out over the evergreens around the centre.
Who’s behind it
The Lodge opened in October 2020, a few months later than planned thanks to the pandemic. It was started by John and Karen Tomlinson, who grew up in Brookswood. It’s now owned by Jeremy and Danica Schorb. Jeremy is a Red Seal chef who was in the kitchen for the opening menu, and Danica also comes from food and beverage. In 2026 the same family took over Cedarbrook Bakery, which has moved into the rec centre lobby downstairs.
What to order
- Steak, from an 8 oz tenderloin to sharing-size porterhouse and tomahawk cuts. On the current menu a 10 oz New York striploin is $58 and the 8 oz tenderloin is $62.
- The tableside Caesar. It’s mixed at your table, and it needs at least two people.
- Cedar-plank BC sockeye and other seafood, if not everyone at the table wants beef.
- The Lodge Bacon Cheddar Burger, for a less formal night.
There’s a children’s menu too, so it works for a family birthday as well as a date night. Going by the reviews, those are exactly the occasions most people book it for, and they tend to mention the tableside service and how comfortable the booths are.
Before you go
They’re open every day from 4 to 10 pm, dinner only. You can book online from their website or call 604-510-8957. The restaurant is on the upper floor of the rec centre, so check with them first if you need an elevator or level access.
The family’s community support is on the record too: the Peace Arch Hospital Foundation listed The Lodge as a sponsor of its 2024 gala. For more independent places around Brookswood, see Shop Local.
