Oldhand is the big, bright café on the Fraser Highway one-way. There’s a counter of daily baking downstairs and a sunny room upstairs with plenty of seats, which makes it one of the easier places downtown to linger over a coffee with a friend or a laptop.

What to order

The baking is made in-house every day and changes with what’s in season, so treat this as a guide rather than a promise:

  • Scones: blueberry with an Earl Grey glaze is the one people talk about
  • Soft pretzels with their own house-made mustard
  • Cookies: Earl Grey snickerdoodles and salted chocolate chunk
  • Coffee: espresso drinks, flat whites and espresso tonics, made with their own beans and guest roasts from other specialty roasters

Sandwiches start at 11 am. If you like the coffee, you can take a bag home; their whole beans start at about $29 on their online shop.

Who’s behind it

Kristina and Johannes van Bommel van Vloten got into specialty coffee in Victoria, moved to Vancouver in 2010 and managed cafés before opening their own. Their first Oldhand opened in Abbotsford in 2015. Downtown Langley became the second in March 2025, and their story draws on the food and hospitality traditions of their European families.

Before you go

They’re open 7 am to 5 pm on weekdays and 8 am to 5 pm on weekends. Holiday hours are posted on their Instagram. The upstairs room has no elevator, so if stairs are a problem, grab a seat downstairs. You can also book the room for a meeting or small gathering through their website. Email [email protected].
