If you’re heading to Sabà Bistro for Saturday or Sunday brunch, don’t try to book. Weekend brunch runs on an online waitlist: you add your name through their reservation link a couple of hours before you want to eat, and they seat people around their preferred time. They say a spot isn’t guaranteed, but that they can usually fit everyone in. Dinner and weekday meals do take reservations.
The family behind it
Chef-owner Simone Hurwitz and her family built Sabà one space at a time. The café on Mavis Avenue came first, the bistro is the sit-down room a few blocks away, and the pizzeria and Italian market is the newest. Hurwitz is originally from South Africa, by way of Israel and Italy, according to a Vancouver Sun line the café quotes, and the cooking shows it: Mediterranean, Italian and Middle Eastern, with local produce where the season allows. When BC Living visited the pizzeria in July 2026 she was working the floor herself.
What’s on the plate
The menu changes with the season, and they ask you to allow for price flexibility, so treat this as a taste of it:
- Brunch: shakshuka with lamb meatballs in a cast-iron skillet, challah French toast, a lamb kefta flatbread, and benedicts on a house herb scone
- Dinner: lamb popsicles in sherry butter, mussels in green curry, beef bourguignon, a pistachio crema tagliatelle and a Moroccan-style vegetable tagine
- Dietary notes: gluten-free and vegan options are marked on the menu
When we looked, brunch plates ran roughly $16 to $26 and most dinner mains $28 to $48. Happy hour is 3 to 5 pm, and their own description mentions a wine list.
