Red Velvet is half café, half little boutique. You come in for a latte and a cinnamon bun, and while it’s being made you end up flipping through a rack of tops and a table of jewellery and gifts. It’s a small, homey stop on Douglas Crescent, a block off the main drag.
What to order
- Cinnamon buns: baked in-house, and the thing regulars mention first
- Red velvet cake: naturally, given the name
- Coffee: organic Frog Friendly coffee and espresso drinks. A small latte was $4 on their posted menu when we checked
- Tea: London Fogs and loose teas from Naked Teas Galore and Aromano
- Lunch: paninis, sandwiches and wraps made to order. The breakfast menu runs until 1 pm
Oat and almond milk are available for a small extra charge.
The shop inside
The clothing, jewellery and gift corner is DD Booski, a local boutique that started out in Fort Langley before moving in here. You can also browse it online if something catches your eye after you’ve left.
Before you go
They’re open Monday to Saturday, 9 am to 5 pm, and closed Sundays and statutory holidays. Call 604-510-1885. The patio is dog-friendly, so it’s an easy stop on a walk around downtown.
