The right charger depends on how long you’re stopping. If you’re swimming laps for an hour, a cheap Level 2 plug at the rec centre is perfect. If you’re passing through on Highway 1 with a long drive ahead, you want a fast charger and 20 minutes. Here’s Langley sorted that way.
Two quick basics
Level 2 is 240-volt charging, roughly 3.3 to 19.2 kW. It’s what you plug into while you do something else. DC fast charging is much quicker, but most plug-in hybrids can only take Level 2, so check your manual. Fast charging also slows down once your battery passes about 80%, so the last stretch takes the longest.
Actual speed depends on your car, the battery’s temperature and how full it is, so treat the kW numbers as a ceiling.
Match the charger to the stop
| You’re stopping for | Try | What it costs |
|---|---|---|
| A swim, a skate or the gym (1–2 hours) | Township rec centres: Walnut Grove, W.C. Blair, Aldergrove | $1.50/hr for the first two hours |
| An appointment at City Hall or Timms | City FLO chargers at Timms | $1/hr for two hours, plus tax |
| A game or event at LEC | BC Hydro hub, or Township Level 2 | Per kWh (BC Hydro) or per hour (Township) |
| A quick top-up on the way through | Electrify Canada, Willoughby; Tesla on 204 Street or the Bypass | Shown in the app and on the screen |
| A round of golf | Redwoods Golf Course (Township charger) | $1.50/hr for the first two hours |
Township chargers
The Township runs 18 public Level 2 ports, at the Aldergrove Community Centre, the Civic Facility at 20338 65 Avenue, the Langley Events Centre, Walnut Grove Community Centre, W.C. Blair Recreation Centre, Redwoods Golf Course and Yorkson Community Park (the 82 Avenue lot). The chargers marked for staff and Township fleet vehicles aren’t public, so use the public bays.
It also has one public DC fast charger at the Township Operations Centre, 4700 224 Street: $16 an hour with a $2 minimum and a 40-minute limit.
You start a session with the ChargePoint app, by tapping your phone, or with an activated ChargePoint card. ChargePoint takes credit and debit cards, PayPal, Apple Wallet and Google Pay. Its own service fee may be added to some paid sessions, so check the total on screen. ChargePoint support is 1-888-758-4389, any time.
City chargers
Langley City added public chargers on the FLO network in 2023. Six are at Timms Community Centre, in the underground garage and outside the north entrance. There are also two each at the City Fire Hall (5785 203 Street), the Douglas Recreation Centre (20550 Douglas Crescent) and the City Operations Centre (5713 198 Street). The current fee bylaw sets $1 an hour for the first two hours, then $3 an hour, plus tax. FLO works with its app, a FLO card or a guest payment.
The BC Hydro hub at the Events Centre
This is the big one. In September 2025 BC Hydro expanded its Langley Events Centre site to charge 18 vehicles at once. It added four 180 kW fast chargers that each split power between two cars (up to 90 kW each when both are plugged in), plus eight Level 2 ports, alongside the 50 kW and 100 kW chargers already there. The Events Centre says EV spaces are near Gate 4 and in the ARENAS parkade, and its parking is free.
BC Hydro charges by the energy you take, not by time. As of April 1, 2026: $0.3969 per kWh on fast chargers and $0.3083 on Level 2, before tax. There’s a $0.40-a-minute idle fee on fast chargers if you leave the car plugged in more than five minutes after it finishes; Level 2 has no idle fee. Pay with the BC Hydro EV app, an RFID card or the QR code on the charger. No membership needed. Help line: 1-866-338-3369, 24/7.
What does that work out to? Twenty kWh costs about $7.94 on a BC Hydro fast charger or $6.17 on Level 2, before tax.
Fast-charging networks
Electrify Canada, Save-On-Foods Willoughby (20255 64 Avenue). Four CCS chargers, each up to 350 kW. Guests can pay by credit or debit card right at the charger, and the current price shows in the app and on the screen.
Tesla Superchargers. Three Langley sites, all open 24/7 with 16 stalls each: the Holiday Inn Express on 204 Street (up to 250 kW), and two in the RioCan centre on the Langley Bypass, at 20075 and 20090 (up to 325 kW). Non-Tesla drivers can use them through the Tesla app’s “Charge Your EV” option, if their car is eligible. Some cars need a NACS adapter. Prices show in the app, with taxes included, and busy sites can add congestion fees.
Before you go
- Use your network’s app to filter by your car’s connector. BC Hydro’s app does this and also shows partner networks, with a roaming fee of $0.75 (Level 2) or $1.25 (fast), tax in.
- Check the charger itself for whose it is. At the Events Centre, Township and BC Hydro chargers sit side by side and bill differently.
- Heading out of town after you charge? Our getting there from Langley guide has drive times to the usual day trips, and transit in Langley covers leaving the car at home.
