Ask around and most people can name one famous person from Langley, usually a hockey player, and then stall. The real list is longer and stranger than that. It runs from a Kwantlen chief who decided where the Hudson’s Bay Company would trade, through a Fort Langley butcher whose will paid for a bridge, to a Stanley Cup winner who learned the game in Aldergrove and a child actor who voiced a Pixar lead and then graduated from Walnut Grove Secondary.

A note on how we decide who goes in. “From Langley” means a source says the person was born here, grew up here, or lives and works here now. Plenty of famous people have played a junior hockey game at George Preston or shot a movie on Glover Road; that alone doesn’t make them ours. Where sources disagree on a birthplace, and for athletes they often do, the bio says so rather than picking the answer we’d like.
