The Langley Animal Protection Society, known as LAPS, looks after lost, surrendered and adoptable animals from its base at the Patti Dale Animal Shelter. The charity’s listing on CanadaHelps gives its mission as supporting healthy human-animal connections through leadership, education, programs and municipal services, and says it cares for more than 1,400 dogs, cats and farm animals a year.
What LAPS does
From the LAPS site:
- Animal control and sheltering for LAPS Animal Control, the City of Langley, Metro Vancouver parks and the Township of Langley. The site’s news mentions an expansion of services in Langley City and an agreement with the Township dated December 16, 2025.
- Lost and found: you can report a lost or found animal and see found-animal listings.
- Community help: the Patti Dale Food Bank (for pets), subsidized vet care, compassion boarding and spay and neuter vouchers.
- Doghouse Daycare and Boarding, plus training, in partnership with Correctional Services of Canada.
- A Youth Reading Program, LAPS Sniffspot, and dog birthday and “Gotcha Day” parties.
An announcement dated August 28, 2026 says LAPS is becoming Canada’s first National Kitten College Campus, offering free kitten care training.
Adopting
Adoptable dogs, cats and other animals are listed on the site, and it links to separate adoption pages for cats and dogs. If you need to rehome a pet, LAPS has a surrender process. We didn’t read the step-by-step rules, so check those pages before you visit.
Volunteering
LAPS’s volunteer page says volunteers commit to a two-hour weekly shift for at least six months. Ages 13 to 17 can help with cats only, with a parent or guardian present; volunteers 18 and over can work with dogs and cats on their own. Roles include kennel assistant, dog walking, cat care and enrichment, shelter and reception help, donations, transport, grounds and repairs. Apply through the form on the site; for group or corporate volunteering, the page lists an email contact. See also our volunteering guide.
Donating
Donations are taken through online giving pages, including monthly giving and a Kitten and Cats Fund, plus wishlists. If you have a dog at home, our off-leash dog parks guide may help. Other local causes are in charities and galas, and shelter events can show up on our events page.
