Look up when you walk in. The ceiling is strung with papel picado in every colour, the booths are red, and one wall has a painted arch with shelves of Mexican pottery beside it.

The menu is long. The About page says the restaurant comes from a family in the food business back in Mexico, and the kitchen leans on that: ten kinds of tacos (three to a plate, $15.95 to $16.95 apart from the $24 birria, when we checked), plus tostadas, sopes, tamales, fajitas, chile relleno and a pozole of hominy with chicken or pork.

Worth ordering

  • Birria tacos at $24, braised beef and cheese, with a cup of consommé for dipping. They describe them as the ones everyone keeps talking about.
  • Tacos in carnitas, al pastor, carne asada, tinga de pollo, mole, fish or rajas con crema (peppers, corn, onion)
  • Pozole, which they were pushing hard as soup season arrived
  • Chips: they say they fry them fresh daily

Vegetarians get a real section: veggie fajitas, burritos, quesadillas and chimichangas, plus the rajas tacos.

Daily specials run lower than the regular menu:

  • Tuesday: tacos (carnitas, tinga, mole, ground beef or rajas), $14.99
  • Wednesday: quesadilla, $20.99
  • Thursday: tostadas, $17.99
  • Friday: flautas, $17.99
  • Saturday: burrito, $18.99
  • Sunday: pozole, $22.99

The specials are marked dine-in, and prices change, so check the menu. Saturday and Sunday also bring brunch until 3 pm: chilaquiles, huevos rancheros, huevos con chorizo and a breakfast burrito.

Weekend reservations and parties of six or more need a $20 deposit, applied to the bill but not refundable if you cancel, and groups of six or more get 15% gratuity added. Check availability first, then send the deposit. DoorDash and Uber Eats are linked from their site for takeout.
